In addition to cello stuff, I'm also a member of
Partch, an ensemble based in Los Angeles (founded
by John Schneider) that plays the music of the
wonderful microtonal composer, Harry Partch. In
Partch I play the kithara (72-stringed instrument
with glass rods) and the adapted viola. I have been
involved with the ensemble for four seasons and
hope to continue working with them! Alas, it is a bit
of a challenge as they are 3,000 miles away at the
moment. Our last concert was at the Roy and Edna
Disney Cal Arts Theater (REDCAT) in Los Angeles
and it sold out! That made me happy. Our
performance of "Castor & Pollux" is featured on the
new DVD, ENCLOSURE 8, released by Innova
Records.
Psst. I'm also a rather mediocre viola da gamba
player. Since I am studying at Longy I will be
exploring the world of early music more, and
perhaps this extra factoid about me will someday
be of greater significance. But for now...I just own
one and occasionally read through some Hume and
Boismortier. This is a viola da gamba (not mine):
